Gaming mice are advertised with high DPIs and polling rates. These specifications generally matter most to gamerswhich is why you tend to see the values prominently displayed in advertising and on packaging for gaming mice. Arguably, though, a mouse with good precision also can be important to graphic artists and designers.

There was a time when a computer mouse contained a rubber ball that rolled and picked up dirt as you moved it across a mouse pad. Those days are over, and today we have optical and laser mice. Modern optical mice contain a light— usually a red one—and a little camera. As you move the mouse around, the light shines on the surface below the mouse and the camera takes hundreds of pictures per second. The mouse then sends this movement data to your computer as mouse input, and the computer moves the cursor across your screen.

Laser mice function similarly, but use infrared light instead of visible light. Dots per inch DPI is a measurement of how sensitive a mouse is. A mouse with a higher DPI setting detects and reacts to smaller movements. On the other hand, a higher DPI setting helps your mouse detect and respond to smaller movements so you can point at things more accurately.

When zooming in with a sniper rifle and trying to aim precisely at small targets, a high DPI could be valuable by allowing you to smoothly aim with small mouse movements.

When playing the game normally without a zoomed-in sniper rifle, this high DPI may be too sensitive. This is why many high-end gaming mouse have buttons that you can flick to switch between DPI settings on the fly when playing a game.

You can also see why more sensitive mice are attractive to designers that need to make minute adjustments in their designs. DPI is different from the typical mouse sensitivity setting.

High DPI mice are more useful if you have a higher-resolution monitor. Polling rate is measured in Hz. If a mouse has a Hz polling rate, it reports its position to the computer times every second—or every 8 milliseconds. A Hz rate means that the mouse is reporting its position to the computer every 2 milliseconds.

A higher polling rate can decrease the lag that occurs between when you move your mouse and when the movement shows up on your screen. On the other hand, a higher polling rate will use more CPU resources as the CPU has to query the mouse for its position more often. A mouse that officially supports a higher polling rate will generally allow you to select a polling rate in its control panel. Some mice may have hardware switches to adjust their polling rate on the fly, too.

DPI and polling rates are a subject of great debate. Everyone has an opinion, and even some gaming mouse manufacturers have said that DPI is a fairly irrelevant specification to talk about. An extremely high DPI would cause the mouse cursor to fly across your entire screen when you nudge the mouse. A higher polling rate could be useful, but the difference between Hz and Hz will be hard to notice.

A higher polling rate also uses more CPU resources, so setting the polling rate too high will just waste CPU resources for no benefit.

Polling Rate Question Titan One general support. Questions, firmware update, feature request. I was wondering if the Titan One or Two could decrease the native input lag caused by the Xbox controllers Hz polling Rate?

Ideally I would want hz but I'm not sure if the Xbox controller has a report rate that high. Has anyone tested this or would the raise know if you can reduce the Xbox one input lag on PC for 8ms to 1 or 2 ms with the Titan One or Two? This is intriguing, as its USB endpoint descriptor have the bInterval configured to 4ms. The Titan Two try respect what the USB descriptor determines and polls the controller at 4ms rate, but the controller only reply each 8ms. Therefore, I don't believe it is possible reduce the input lag of the Xbox One controller.

However, the Titan Two will send to the console data reports as fast as the console request - so, using an PS4 controller or any other fast controller you should be able to significantly reduce the input lag when playing on Xbox One. ConsoleTuner Support Team. I've tried google to find faster controllers besides the PS4 one. Do you know any?

I really like the Xbox controller, but might switch if something has significantly better response time. Both are PS4 compatible, but with similar fell in hands as the Xbox One controller. Do you happen to know these controllers polling and report rates?

I'll continue to search in the meantime. Again, thanks for the response.

The Razer I am not sure, but it should be the same. So at the very least it will effectively halve the input lag of the controller. Interesting, I hope there will be a hz controller soon, I play Rocket League competitively and it is one of the few games that actually benefits from using a controller over a mouse and keyboard. And how could you measure it?The more DPI usually results in less accurate movements, but with high speed. Polling Rate means how often the mouse is communicating its position to the computer.

Polling Rate is measured in Hz. Having high Polling rate is good for gaming, but when you come up at around Hz and upwards, the rise is barely noticeable for the user. If you are a typical PC user, you would have heard about the terms DPI and polling rate of the mouse. But DPI and polling rate have a significant impact when it comes to gaming. Gamers have to consider the polling rate and DPI of the gaming mouse they use because it directly affects the type of game they play.

Eiter way, we are here to discuss the DPI and polling rate and how they impact on your gaming. Do you remember when there were trackball mice? And how inaccurate it was, thats because it used mechanical rollers to understand what position it had. However, today we modern optical mice that use a totally different technology. As you move the mouse on the surface, the light shines, and the camera takes thousands of pictures in each second.

The mouse then utilizes these images and converts them into the direction in which you are moving it. The mouse then sends its movement data to the computer, where it is processed. Therefore is Optical mice much more responsive and accurate. Another type of mice is laser mice which have got a similar working function, and it only differs in the light. Instead of using an LED light, the laser mouse uses an infrared light which is invisible to human eye.

Laser mouse can track tiny details easily, and it is able to work on reflective surfaces easily unlike the optical mouse.

The higher is the range of DPI; the more can cursor move on the screen when you are moving the mouse. A gaming mouse usually comes with a high DPI range for detecting small movements easily. DPI is technically called CPI Counts Per Inchthe number of counts, or virtual pixels that the mouse sensor will be able to display and register on a surface.

If you switch the DPI settings to the highest your mouse goes, it can result in tracking of minimal movements. A gaming mouse with higher DPI settings can provide you with fast movements to make you move quick, or low DPI to make small, precise movements.

This could also depend on what type of game you are playing, but if you mainly are playing a first-person shooter or battle royale games. When you play any other regular game with zero involvement of very fast movements, lower DPI settings may be ideal for you because in this way the mouse is not traveling so far on tiny movements and in this way allows you to play the game with consistent, stable aim.

A lot of people think that DPI is similar to that of mouse sensitivity which is entirely wrong. The operating system only compensates to the information it gets from the mice, resulting in movements that are not so smooth. A high DPI gaming mouse can easily be paired with a low sensitivity setting in both games and the OS.

Higher DPI gaming mice working capability also depends upon the monitor resolution. But if you have got a 4K resolution monitor and you are playing a game in full HD graphics, a high DPI mouse will provide you a smoother movement all across the screen while you enjoy the game.

Well, mice with different polling rates have various meanings.

ps4 polling rate

If a mouse has got a Hz polling rate, it reports its position to the computer times every second. Similarly, if a mouse has got a Hz polling rate, it means that the mouse is reporting its position to the computer in every 2 milliseconds. A higher polling rate has a significant impact while you are gaming. A mouse with a high value of polling rate is able to decrease the lag which more probably occurs when you move your mouse and when the movements show up on the screen.

On the other hand, a mouse with high polling rate will also use more CPU resources. Like we discussed in our review of the best mouse for Apex Legends. That is also what most gaming mice are released with.Home Help Search Login Register.

I was wondering what the best polling rate to us on the ps4 is. I heard that using doesn't do much since the ps4 can only handle ? Is it still acceptable to use ? Or will i feel a negative difference in my experience overall? If anyone has more insight to this topic please enlighten me.

Edit: I use a Gpro as my mouse and a ps3 nav stick--not that the gamepad of choice makes a difference in polling rates. I think I saw someone mentioned the PS4's polling rate is Hz. After further research, the PS4 is and xbox is Still want to if using will limit me in anyway. Apex is, and Hz.

To my knowledge, I'm the only one using Hz on the Apex. Maybe piiwii is too.

Mouse Polling Rate for Fortnite Explained

Reason being is the Titan Two desyncs with the Xim Apex when it's running at or Hz, causing input lag. Setting the Apex to Hz resolves that problem and also nicely dovetails with the PS4's native polling rate.

If I had used the Apex at Hz from the get-go, that's what I'd be flogging. But I'm happy with Hz and in my setup, there's no benefit to upping the Apex polling rate until the T2 gets a fix. As mentioned previously, the Apex's 1ms input lag to the console is less of a feature than the mouse running at full Hz polling to the Apex. You'll definitely notice the difference in the smoothness of the mouse tracking on an Apex compared to Xim4.

It's apparently set at the OS level rather than the game and both PS4 and XB1 can take advantage of 1ms polling, despite not running their own wireless controllers at that rate. Follow Twitter for live stream alerts. Xim4 can only poll at Hz.

That's more a factor of the Xim4's ancestry as an Xbox device than any intentional decision not to poll at the PS4's native Hz rate. If you're referring to the polling rate of the mouse connected to the Xim4, then there's not really a significant benefit to running a mouse at higher than Hz.

But there's also no problem running a mouse ator Hz with a Xim4, the additional polling just gets filtered out. You'll find that most of us run mice connected to Xim4 at Hz. If jitter is experienced, those affected can improve the experience by dropping it to Hz. I can't think of anyone running a mouse at either or Hz. If it works, it works Try the mouse at Hz and Hz to see if it improves your experience.

It may make no difference, or could introduce jitter due to higher polling. Whatever the case, Xim4 is going to poll at Hz and Hz on the mouse isn't a bad thing, it just shouldn't hurt to go higher. Is there anyway to tell what polling rate the controllers use when gaming with them on Windows? No trouble of course, if nobody knows, just a curiosity I've had for awhile now.

BlindBisonAug 8, Hi there I think most of the controllers have polling rate around Hz 8ms and not sure if there is controller with Hz right now, maybe in coming months and years we will have faster controllers but for now these controllers from Xbox or PS DS4 etc have same polling rate I play games exclusively on controller and I don't play online games at all Hope this helps Thanks,Jura.

The only information I can find is from random people online who claim that it's Hz. RealNCAug 12, BlindBison likes this. That's a bit disappointing to hear, but I appreciate the heads-up. I wasn't able to locate any info about it Googling round so that's very helpful. BlindBisonAug 15, Neo CyrusAug 19, RealNCAug 19, Neo CyrusAug 20, I can confirm this is the case. Its definitely 8ms hz on the Xbox itself so id imagine it would work the same way on PC. Apparently this is also the case with using mouse and keyboard on Xbox.

What is Mouse DPI and Polling Rate – What Is Best for Gaming?

A higher polling rate means there will be less lag between when you move your mouse and the cursor update on your screen. You may be tempted to set your mouse to the highest polling rate possible. Some games are built on old game engines and are not optimized for higher polling rates. Something that I have experienced with polling rate is that using the same DPI setting but lowering the polling rate can make the mouse seem like it moves faster.

This is only noticeable in-game, and the effects are very minimal. I have written an article explaining the best DPI settings for games. Higher polling rates use more CPU resources so there is very little reason to use hz over hz.

This is the razer synapse software and you can see on this image that the polling rate is set to on the Razer DeathAdder Elite. The reasoning behind this is that CSGO is very competitive, and any variable can be the difference between killing your enemy. Even though the difference is essentially unnoticeable Hz being 2ms and Hz being 1ms, that slight difference could make a big difference depending on the scenario.

Same with Fortnite and PUBG, I recommend using the highest polling rate to ensure you have every advantage over your enemy. Short answer, yes. The higher the polling rate the more lag it causes. The difference between and Hz can be the difference between 60fps and 10fps. In case you suspect that you have polling rate lag, click here to test that theory, if you see inconsistencies then you should lower your polling rate. Different governments use different methods to block access to websites. Some use a combination of techniques to block access to certain sites. In just about all cases, it is the Internet Service Provider (ISP) that implements the blocks. Everything you do on the internet has to go through the computers of an ISP. ISPs have three main methods to stop access to websites. The first is address filtering. The ISP maintains a list of banned web addresses. If Bet365 is banned, the ISP simply drops any request passing through its computers that includes the address bet365.

On the internet, all computers are identified by an IP address. Some address filtering systems maintain a list of banned IP addresses. Thus, rather than blocking a request because it includes bet365. The mapping between web addresses and IP addresses occurs at a Domain Name System (DNS) computer. When you type www.

It then sends a request for a page to that IP address. Some ISPs manipulate the DNS entry for banned web addresses in order to implement the bans.

The usual practice is to set up a ban message page and enter the IP address of that against the web addresses of the sites that the government wants to block. The third method that ISPs use to block banned sites is content filtering.

This is a good way to deal with governments that ban whole topics rather than specific websites.
